appearance: Eris levels out at 5’6” and weighs between 120 and 125 pounds. While she has naturally dark blonde hair she’s always dyed it two or three shades lighter since adolescence. She tends to take more after her biological mother, with gray blue eyes and an overall oval-shaped face; however her adoptive parents still insist she has her father’s chin. Eris never knew quite what to make of this, as she hasn’t reserved a true opinion of either of her birth parents. Eris’ appearance really depends on her mood. There will be days where she dawns lipstick, fake mascara, high heels, and a lifted Prada handbag to her half-asleep English class, while other days she’ll slug in to her biology class wearing pajama bottoms and a hoodie displaying the name of a college she isn’t even attending.

history:
Eris’ father Lycus had always been the odd one out in his family. He killed his innocents, and he exchanged death threats with his demonic peers, but he never had the fire his brothers possessed that made them so successful. His only full-blooded sibling was his sister Lyssa, and after discovering one of their grandfathers had been human, Lycus decided to get in touch with his so-called ‘human roots’. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with them, still continuing on with his demonic ways, fascinated by both their corruption and their more redeeming qualities. It wasn’t until the mid fifties when the Civil Rights Movement was in full swing he took a sharp decline in all things evil, and in 1969 he was officially disowned by his remaining family members, after having attended Woodstock and failing to promote chaos and destruction. The only member of his family he kept in contact with was his sister Lyssa, who disapproved of his reformed ways. He eventually thrived in the human world, even working the old fashioned way towards becoming a college professor.
In 2004 Lycus met a twenty year old mortal named Samantha Wright. Samantha was reeling from the recent death of her older brother Benjamin, and trying to keep up with her studies. While he was never her professor, the two encountered each other quite frequently, and soon after she’d graduated with her bachelor’s degree they began dating. Eris’ conception wasn’t intended. Samantha was notorious for her forgetfulness and that applied doubly to birth control. When Lycus found out Samantha was pregnant, he proposed. Samantha however, refused to marry him if his only reason for proposing was because she was pregnant. Before Lycus was able to convince her of his intent however, he was vanquished by two of his half-brothers who mistakenly blamed him for sending witches after their father. Samantha was a wreck, as she was not told of Lycus’ demise; she only knew he was missing.
She eventually sought out Lycus’ sister Lyssa, whom Lycus had mentioned only a few times in passing, and after finding her, through extensive prodding and persistence got Lyssa to tell her the truth. Not believing Lyssa when being told her future child was evil, or that Lycus could ever harm a fly, she left. Eris was born on October 29th, 2006. Unable to contact her parents, Samantha, in a panic, called Lyssa. Lyssa, who was hesitant, accompanied Samantha to the hospital. Complications arose when Samantha went in to labor, and she passed shortly after Eris’ birth, before she could even give her a name. Lyssa couldn’t bear the thought of her own flesh and blood being raised by some old humans, so before the doctors could contact Samantha’s parents Eris was taken.
Named after the Greek goddess of strife, Eris’ middle name Evelyn came from a list of names Lyssa found in the backseat of the taxi that had taken Lyssa and Samantha to the hospital. Lyssa was uncertain what to do with Eris once she had gotten her home, her at the time husband Othello was none too pleased with her decision to keep Eris but if Lyssa wanted the newborn to have a shot at evil she couldn’t let her under anyone else’s care, after all, Lycus was an outcast, and no doubt Eris would have been treated the same.
Eventually Othello warmed up to Eris, though it took a good six years before this occurred. As a child Eris was immensely curious, and just as her father was fascinated by humans, she was as well. It wasn’t hidden from her that her mother had been a human, and as a result she was constantly asking about her, despite the fact that Lyssa knew very little. Eris was incredibly persuasive as well, convincing her adoptive parents to send her to a public school after she’d turned five. She got along rather easily with her classmates but never dared used the word ‘friend’ in front of her parents. The two separated when she turned seven, which Lyssa insists was remarkably long for a demonic relationship.
Eris was constantly causing trouble in her classes, trouble the teachers could never quite pin on to her. She liked being bad, she liked chaos, but she appalled rejection which was abundant in schools. When entering her teenage years she began pestering her mother for certain clothes, different beauty products, and asking advice on boys. Lyssa was growing more and more concerned until when Eris was sixteen and began dating a mortal boy. It was then Eris was given an ultimatum: be good or be evil. Eris reluctantly gave up her boyfriend to appease her mother, but never told her of her close mortal friend Zoë, knowing the repercussions.
Finishing up high school and starting college part time was one of the most freeing experiences for Eris. No longer did she have to worry about either of her parents looming over her and watching her every move (even if they did try), and no more pretending to be evil incarnate to appease them either. Better still, Zoë was attending the same college she was, and while they didn’t share classes with one another, it was nice to know there was someone nearby who genuinely cared for her. Still, apartment life was lonely. After finding out her apartment was dog-friendly, her immediate reaction was to get a dog, and that’s just what she did. Abby was a great deal different from the Saarlooswolfhonds her father kept. She was tamer, and a lot harder to house break, but the best part of having a canine companion for Eris was the ability to dote on her without fear of judgment or rejection.
Still being entangled with her parents’ friends however, she could often be found with the likes of fellow demons. She never disliked this much, as she had much in common with them, but all demons all the time was draining, even with catching the occasional break with school or Zoë. She couldn’t deny finding many of them attractive, and had multiple flings, but none of them ever went past sexual gratification. She’d learned that lesson from Lyssa and Othello. She often found herself wishing for a different kind of family, and eventually she’d receive it. She first met Benny at an underground (literally) club while watching her friends let loose on the dance floor. She was always on high alert in such places, as demons often got rowdy and violent, which was fun to watch, even more fun to experience, but always good to be prepared. When they began conversing with one another, Eris assumed Benny was trying to hit on her, but as the conversation progressed his motives became more and more suspicious.
As she soon discovered, Benny was in search of the demon who killed his charge, and former fiancée, though breaking the rules, he just couldn’t forgive and forget. When he gave his real name, Benjamin Wright, against her better judgment Eris persists in telling him of her mother and father. Benny is shocked to learn his sister had passed and he had a niece, and even more so that the niece was demonic. Eris was relieved to have found another blood relative, even if he was a human-loving good-doing witch-healing whitelighter, whom her parents would have loathed. She agreed to help Benny avenge his charge as even without being family, she loved a good mystery. Once she’d found the perpetrator, a former fling of hers, she hesitates before vanquishing him, sparking an interest in Benny.
Benny was by no means the all good and wonderful person a whitelighter was to be ideally, in fact his moral character was easily questioned, but he cared a great deal about others. Eris was unsure whether or not he could be trusted, but decided it made no difference. As for Benny, dealing with the death of a fiancée was no easy task, and having only other whitelighters who followed the straight-and-narrow to talk to was frustrating. They started off as drinking buddies, and after Benny was temporarily stripped of his powers and put on probation for behavior unbefitting a whitelighter (such as drinking and hiring a demonic niece to take out another demon), he crashed at Eris’ apartment, immediately befriending Abby. After having his powers restored the two were still close, though obviously having their differences.
role play sample:
“I’m just saying Eris, where do you think this schooling business is going to take you anyway?” A dark-haired, bright-eyed woman tucked a lock of Eris’ hair behind her ear.
“You can fit in anywhere, the streets, an asylum, politics—“
“An asylum?” Eris raised a brow at hearing these words escape her adoptive mother’s lips.
Lyssa sighed, shaking her head. “Not as a patient, although if you continue down this path I might just have to recommend it.”
“I like school mother,” Eris said, sitting on an abandoned piece of rock. Why demons made homes for themselves in the deep underground is something Eris could never quite understand.
“No child likes school dear.”
“Okay, one, not a child, two, I like humans and three—“
“Don’t say such things,” Lyssa looked genuinely shocked by her adoptive daughter. “That’s the type of talk that put an end to your father.”
“Wow, and here I thought it was demons,” Eris replied rolling her eyes, she always disapproved of Lyssa’s fiercely judgmental nature.
Lyssa suddenly became quite defensive. “Fine, don’t take my advice, don’t do anything you don’t want to do, go wild, go crazy, because I just have no idea what I’m talking about.” With that, Lyssa flamed out, thoroughly disappointed.
“Mom,” too late, Lyssa had left. Eris stood up, and began to stretch. She loved Lyssa but honestly she just wished Lyssa could grasp the fact that not all, in fact, not even most humans were ‘good’. Humans had done more vile and disturbing things throughout history than any demon, and they were just too much fun. At least she hadn’t accused her of being soft as her adoptive father had. But what else was to be expected from the older crowd anyway? They all got set in their own ways at some point. Eris wondered if she’d ever be so uptight and rigid. Probably. This thought sickened her. Suddenly, Eris heard a sound approaching from the distance, similar to footsteps, no wait, they were footsteps. Eris cocked her head for a better view. Guests were always fun, especially when they were uninvited.
